This Privacy Policy explains how Rance Johnson d/b/a 602North Education (“602North Education,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares personal information when you visit education.602north.com, create an account, or purchase one of our online courses. 602North Education is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us directly. When you register for an account, we collect your name and email address. When you purchase a course, you provide payment information directly to our payment processor (Paddle); we do not receive or store your full card number or banking details. When you communicate with us by email or through support channels, we retain those messages.
Information generated by your use of the courses. As you work through lessons, we record progress data such as which lessons you have started or completed, quiz results, assignment submissions, certificates earned, and the dates of those events. This information is used to personalize your dashboard and to issue certificates of completion.
Technical information. Our hosting and analytics tools automatically collect technical data including IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and approximate geolocation derived from IP address.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to: deliver the courses you have purchased; create and maintain your account; process payments through Paddle; issue receipts, invoices, and certificates; respond to your support requests; send operational notices (course updates, security alerts, changes to these policies); prevent fraud and abuse; comply with legal obligations; and, only with your opt-in consent, send marketing emails about new courses, promotions, or related content.
3. Legal Bases (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on the following: Contract — to deliver the courses you have purchased and administer your account; Legitimate interests — to secure our platform, prevent fraud, analyze aggregate usage, and develop new features; Consent — for optional marketing emails and non-essential cookies; and Legal obligation — for tax, accounting, and regulatory compliance.
4. How We Share Your Information
We share personal information only with the service providers and recipients listed below, and only as needed to operate our services:
- Paddle.com Market Limited — payment processing, tax calculation and remittance, fraud prevention, and merchant-of-record services.
- DreamHost — website and database hosting.
- Tutor LMS — the learning management system that powers course delivery (operating on our hosting infrastructure).
- Email delivery providers — to send transactional messages (receipts, password resets, course notifications).
- Google Fonts and other content delivery networks — to serve website assets; these providers receive your IP address as a technical byproduct of serving static files.
- Law enforcement, courts, or regulators — when required by valid legal process.
- A successor business — in the event 602North Education is sold, merged, or reorganized; personal data would be transferred subject to the protections in this policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information with advertising networks.
5. International Transfers
We are based in the United States. If you access our services from outside the United States, your personal information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required by law, we rely on standard contractual clauses or other approved transfer mechanisms with our service providers.
6. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your account information and course progress data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we retain minimal billing and transaction records for up to seven years to comply with tax and accounting obligations. Email support threads are retained for up to three years. Server log data is retained for up to 90 days.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights: access to the personal information we hold about you; correction of inaccurate information; deletion of your information (subject to legal retention obligations); portability of information you provided to us; objection to or restriction of certain processing; and the right to withdraw consent for any processing based on consent.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you additional rights to know what personal information we have collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do neither).
To exercise any of these rights, email support@602north.com. We will verify your identity before responding. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have not addressed your concern, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Children
Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has registered for an account, please contact support@602north.com and we will delete the account and any associated personal information.
9. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and measure how our site is used. Essential cookies are set without your consent because they are required for the site to function. Non-essential cookies (such as analytics) are set only after you accept them via our cookie banner, where required by law.
10. Security
We protect your information using HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, access controls on our administrative systems, and vendor selection criteria that require our processors to meet industry-standard security practices. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that a determined attacker will never gain access, but we will notify affected users and authorities as required by law if a breach affecting your personal data occurs.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will send a notice to the email address associated with your account at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
